George Wohlwend was a professional soccer player in Switzerland that came to the U.S. in the early 60’s because of a career-ending foot injury. After years of inactivity, George began playing on a men’s team in the Detroit metropolitan area. During this time, he and many other fellow soccer players could not find any accessible soccer equipment. As the game of soccer began growing in the mid 70’s he saw the need for a soccer specialty store. In 1978, George’s Soccer Supply was opened and has been serving the soccer community ever since. George Wohlwend passed away after losing a long battle with cancer in 1998.
